The Benefit of Owning A Powered Stair Climber
An electric powered Hand truck is not cheap but is worthwhile investment if you are regularly delivering heavy items such as soda or water. It prevents back strain and is a better option than having a worker getting injured and suing you. If you are in the food delivery business then you will want a platform truck that could covert from a 2 wheeler to a 4 wheel truck.
A motorized stair climber truck can get the job done faster than a manual hand truck and it can carry more weight without additional strain. However, the extra power creates a need for more safety training. A hand truck is made available to make a job easier and therefore must be treated as work equipment. Some companies even require training for powered hand truck operators.
Most issues are really common sense, but unfortunately common sense isn’t all that common these days. For example a hand truck is not a scooter that is meant to ride on and you should not have someone on the truck trying to secure the load while it is moving. If you hit a bump the person on the machine can go flying, and can end up in a not pretty situation.
Keep at least one hand on a handle at all times and face the direction that you are going. The hand truck may do all the heavy lifting and moving for you, but you have to be in control of the direction. If the hand trucks you are using gets away from you it can collide into equipment and damage it or into the wall and damage the load. Even worse, it can plow right into an unsuspecting worker and seriously injure them. A powered hand truck can carry more than a thousand pounds, so the impact could potentially be deadly.
Make sure your hands are dry and that the handles on the hand truck are not greasy or slippery before you operate it. Wear gloves if you have difficulty getting a proper grip. If you lose your grip on the machine by accident, the consequences are just as bad as letting go on purpose. When operating a powered hand truck, it is your responsibility to look out for pedestrians and obstructions. Give pedestrians the right of way at all times and yield at intersections to avoid collisions. Back into elevators so that you can be forward-facing as soon as you exit. Powered hand trucks have drive motors that run in forward and reverse so that you can maneuver in small spaces like elevators and trucks.
Like most other powered equipment when used properly a powered hand truck reduces workload and prevents strain, but if used improperly it can cause alot of problems. As long as the operator is aware of the potential dangers using it entails and is familiar with the operating guidelines, you don’t have to be too nervous of anything going wrong.
